GoPuff Driver Requirements: How to Become a GoPuff Driver

Interested in making some extra money driving for goPuff? Here's everything you need to know about the requirements to become a driver.

The gig economy is a great way for many people to add a flexible full-time or part-time job to their schedule.

There are dozens of companies vying for customers’ orders and for delivery drivers’ time and energy.

Some of the most famous gig economy delivery services are massive and international like Uber Eats and Postmates, and others are more local like goPuff.

If you’ve been considering driving for a delivery service company like goPuff, keep reading.

This article will walk you through why you should consider becoming a goPuff driver, the goPuff driver requirements, income, and the cities where goPuff operates.

Why Become a goPuff Delivery Driver?

GoPuff focuses on delivering thousands of different items, ranging from convenience items like ice cream and drinks for a party to groceries to office supplies to electronics.

All goPuff drivers are independent contractors who are responsible for safely delivering orders to goPuff customers.

Unlike many other delivery services, goPuff warehouses stock their own inventory, saving you the hassle of running around town to pick up and deliver various items.

All deliveries start at the goPuff warehouse and end at the customer’s address.

The fact that every delivery is housed at the goPuff warehouse makes it easier for their drivers to deliver customers’ orders in an expedient and efficient manner.

Drivers are expected to hustle and be shuttling between the warehouse and customer locations on a regular basis.

Drivers are not expected to be involved in anything beyond picking up the customer order and delivering it safely into the customer’s hands.

GoPuff has a warehouse operations team that manages incoming customer orders and prepares them for delivery.

The operations team packs the order and routes it.

Drivers are handed the packed orders and sent out to deliver them.

As the primary point of contact with customers, drivers are responsible for ensuring a positive customer experience.

This makes driving for goPuff a good choice for customer-oriented individuals who are friendly and have good communication skills.

GoPuff is one of the fastest growing delivery services due to their focus on customer service and convenience.

Drivers are asked to select their shifts for the upcoming week on a weekly basis.

GoPuff offers deliveries 24/7 so no matter what a driver’s other commitments are, it’s possible to achieve a good work/life balance with a little planning.

GoPuff Driver Requirements

To work for goPuff as a delivery driver, you must meet certain requirements.

You must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Have a high school degree or equivalent
  • Have a car, a driver’s license, and insurance

In addition to this, you must also be comfortable following the directions provided by a GPS.

Local knowledge is helpful for those instances when an accident or construction makes the route provided by the GPS too slow for expedient delivery.

How Do goPuff Drivers Make Money?

GoPuff provides drivers with a shift pay simply for showing up to work.

The shift pay starts at $30 and goes up to $35, depending on the length of the shift.

Drivers are also paid a few dollars per delivery, which varies depending on the zone.

The further the delivery from the warehouse, the more the goPuff delivery driver earns.

GoPuff caps deliveries to distances within 30 minute of the warehouse to ensure expedient delivery and maximum driver earnings.

Customers are encouraged to tip their delivery drivers in the goPuff mobile app.

These credit card tips are added to your shift money and are paid out in your weekly paycheck.

At the end of each shift, a manager sits down with every driver and tallies up their shift pay, the deliveries made to each zone, and the credit card tips.

GoPuff drivers end every shift knowing what they’ve earned down to the penny and what their next paycheck will be as of that shift.

  1. Gopuff is not, I repeat, Gopuff is not worth the time or money. In las vegas you only get 3 bucks per order you pick up 1 order, drive 10mins away, go back to the warehouse pick up one more order, drive 8 mins going, 8 mins back and maybe you’ll get 2-3 orders at 1 time. It sucks, and the drivers that have been there for awhile get prefential treatment. Someone compared it to Amazon Flex …yeah, no. Not like Flex at all. Your “schedule time” don’t guarantee you nothing. I don’t see the company going public. The unprofessional way they run their fulfillment centers will have people w/out work real soon. Will not use them on a consumer level either.
