Who Created Gigworker.com?

Brett Helling, Founder

My name is Brett Helling, and I am the founder and owner of Gigworker.com.

Gigworker started as a passion project that I built after gaining experience doing hundreds of side hustles throughout my life.

I’ve been a rideshare driver since early 2012, having completed many trips for companies including Uber, Lyft, and Postmates.

In 2014 I acquired Ridester.com to share my rideshare experiences with other drivers.

Since that time, I’ve expanded my knowledge-sharing efforts by creating this site, as well as writing the book Gigworker: Independent Work and the State of the Gig Economynow available for purchase on Amazon.

I share helpful knowledge about the industry, which is regularly quoted by publications such as Forbes, Vice, CNBC, and more.

Growing Through Acquisition

Brett Helling, Founder

Since the inception of Gigworker.com, our team has had the opportunity to acquire various properties, fueling our company’s rapid growth.

We see acquiring websites that are highly relevant to our readership as one of the most effective ways to grow our site, so we are always looking for strategic acquisitions that we can add to our existing content categories.

Our team is radically transparent, and we have no problem admitting that we don’t know what we don’t know. So, we’d rather acquire a website built by niche professionals – people who have a true, deep understanding of the topics.

Cameraken.com

You can now find the information from Cameraken.com within our Video & Photography Equipment category on our blog.

CameraKen (formerly UNES Co-Ci) was your expert buddy for anything that relates to cameras. Our website revolved around everything that is connected to cameras. The buying guide would be of the following categories:

  • Camera lists: We provided a camera list of a particular requirement, be it cameras for Vlog or cameras for filming the hunt, we love to present an overall list that would cater to a specific need or a budget. We cover every type of camera in the market be it a flagship high-end DSLR or an entry-level point and shoot camera. We write about things that capture moments.
  • Bundles: Buying a camera alone is never enough. You need some very good accessories and we also review bundles that you can choose from. Each camera usually has a bundle and we list them.
  • Accessories: Some articles are solely about accessories such as lights, tripods, lenses, or SD cards. Accessories are something that you would change or upgrade more often than cameras so we pay special attention to them.

Our recommendations and reviews are based on multiple sources of information. We interview the experts, the common users, and browse through various sites that publish the reviews to give you an overview of the product.

Our Goal

Photography advice that elevates user experience. Photography is a vast ocean of experimenting and sometimes, choosing the right product can be quite overwhelming for a person.

We aim to eliminate the confusion and panic that might arise when you would have a lot of options and no one to consult. Additionally, we keep in mind the difficulties that a user faces and make our content the perfect balance between technical terms and simple language that you can understand.

CameraKen is all about giving you the best advice for the best user experience. You can be a complete alien to the world of photography and this can be the first experience you would want to have of photography or you can be a professional who is in the field from years, we make our content understandable for all.

My story is my family’s story, and our story is about more than blogging or side hustles. It’s about creating the life we always wanted, and remembering what’s most important along the way.

Hey there!

My name’s Dustin, and I run BloggerDad to teach people how to start and grow their own successful blogs and side businesses.

I’m a husband, dad to twin daughters and one little baby dude, and a full-time digital marketer based in Phoenix, Arizona.

I started BloggerDad to share some of the marketing, blogging, content and SEO knowledge I’ve learned over the years, and to help people navigate starting and growing a blog without running into all the same obstacles I did.

I know the struggle of not having enough time in the day or money in the bank to do all the things you’d like.

Now, after more than a decade of blogging and online marketing, I know how the right side business can really make a difference in your life.

Starting and growing websites has helped me and my wife travel, pay for fertility treatment after years of not being able to conceive naturally, and today we have a nice, comfortable home to raise our kids.

I’m not a guru and we’re not millionaires, and we’re still wingin’ most of it as we go.

But I’ve experienced firsthand how having extra income through blogging can completely change the way you live.

Freedom Over Everything

Today, we have the financial freedom to do things like spend a month of our hot ass Phoenix summers on the east coast instead, where my wife’s brother and niece live.

But more importantly, we’ve got back our time.

To be honest, I don’t care about having extra money.

I care about what that money gives us, which is time and freedom to be with each other instead of working long hours or spending time apart.

If I wanted to make as much money as possible with no regard to anything else, I probably wouldn’t blog.

(I’d climb some fat-cat big-wig fancy corporate ladder or stepladder. I love a good stepladder.)

But I do that because it allows me to balance making good money with quality family time – and cats whenever my wife decides we can invest in a family cat.

Running a blogging business is all about finding your time-money-life balance, and everyone’s is different.

How I Help Bloggers

Whether you’ve tried blogging in the past or just started considering jumping in, I’m here to help.

Blogging and the income it’s brought in has completely changed our lives over the last few years, and I’m committed to bringing that same change to other people and families who know the power of meaningful work.

Thanks for visiting and stay tuned for more good stuff to come. – Dustin

Tactilehobby.com

You can now find the information from Bloggerdad.com within the Hobby Ideas hub on our website.

Welcome to Tactile Hobby!

I remember the first time I saw miniatures. I was walking around in Princeton New Jersey, right next to the University. My Dad owned a travel agency nearby. This is the early 80’s, so yeah there were brick and mortar Travel Agencies at the time hah.

Anyway, on Nassau Street there was a Hobby Shop. Maybe it’s still there? They had a BIG glass display cases FULL of miniatures. Knights, dragons, dwarves, this AWESOME umber hulk… man, I wish I had him now. Just everything you’d want. Paints, books, models. The whole nine yards.

We bought what we could afford and some little Testors paints. We did awful paint jobs. But, we loved it.
Now, years later, I’m finding myself back in the hobby! Join me as I rekindle my boyhood adventures in collecting, building and painting miniatures, and every kind of physical hobby I can find. Less video games (which I still love) and more hands-on creating.

Find Your Passion Again Too!

We are all about finding new hobbies and enjoying them to their fullest. We will explore familiar ones and learn about new hobbies as we go! Do you have a passion you’re not seeing here? Let me know!! The miniature hobby has grown and changed so much. 3D Printing, airbrushing, resin casts, Kickstarters, terrain… it’s AMAZING. Let’s go!

Day One of getting back into the hobby and ordering stuff!

Notice any figures or paints in there you might have? [Those brushes are terrible by the way.] I’ve learned a lot in a short time, ha.

Fast forward 2-weeks and here was my setup! Paint racks, better brushes, a wet palette, now we’re talking.

Did you paint these three guys? So many people have! Here are mine

How I Write

On this site, I’m only going to show you stuff that I’m using or considered buying because I’ve researched it. If I don’t know something, trust me, I’ll tell ya. I’m also learning a lot so if there are more knowledgeable people on say… Warhammer, or 3D printer settings, I’ll give you the experts take. My goal here is to help you all get started out, and enjoy the hobby!

Growing More And More!

As I write this I was just at a hobby shop in Cincinnati.  I can’t help myself…I love visiting any I can find whenever I travel.  I asked the owner how things were going, and he said more and more people are getting into the tabletop games.  Board games, minis, DnD, Warhammer, Magic the Gathering… all that!  This article is a few years old now but it talks about the niche growing in popularity

I think a lot has to do with push back on everything being virtual now.  So much screen time, so little time away from the internet creating something physical, or playing something with someone face to face.

For me, it’s a chance to unwind and relax while painting some miniatures.

Learn With Me

I am all about finding the answers to my questions, and then boiling it down to a dead simple, easy to understand, easy to follow guide. I want to remove that overwhelming feeling we all get when something new comes around and seems complicated. I want more people in this hobby with us!

As I learn, I’ll break it down and share it with you all here. No top 1000 lists of every possible option. I want to curate and simplify. Find the best of the best, justify the choices with real-world experience and research. If it’s a skill, I’ll break it down into super simple steps, as few as possible, so you can get a result to build on. That’s how I like things anyway.

Stay a while and reach out if you have questions or topics you’d like to see covered!

Startablog123.com

You can now find the information from Bloggerdad.com within the Digital Marketing hub on our website.

My name is Gary Dek and, after graduating college in 2008, my cousin and I built one of the largest torrent search engines. If you are not familiar with “torrents”, they are the most popular form of peer-to-peer file sharing, allowing you to download virtually anything for free

A month after launching, we were getting more than 300,000 visitors per month. A few months after that, we built another torrent site with a different design and interface to target users who may have wanted another style of searching. In the first month, that site too was receiving more than 300,000 visitors per month. As of 2014, each averages more than 2M visitors per month.

It was during these ventures that I learned the amazing potential of the internet, as well as came to the realization that I loved to build things. To provide people around the world with useful tools and information, and for them to continuously revisit my websites, gave me great satisfaction and continued inspiration.

Long story short, I eventually built a number of websites and blogs that made it possible for me to quit my day job and focus on building my internet company. At one point, I started and managed more than 50 blogs. Today, I spend my time growing about a dozen authority sites, some of which average over 1,000,000 visits a month.

Now, I want to pass on that knowledge to you. StartABlog123.com is the culmination of years of research and experience. We will discuss everything from the basics of how to start a blog to promotion, outreach, on-page SEO, link building strategies, growing traffic, and making money blogging online. If you are looking to build a blog, you’ve come to the right place!

I’ve gained years of experience blogging online, and am now ready to pass these lessons and insights along to readers with my content.

Our Story

How Our Company Came to Be

Gigworker started as a simple concept: to bring success to those in the gig economy.

Since then, we’ve produced thousands of pieces of content, built many different interactive features, and had the opportunity to acquire multiple websites that we think are a great fit for our audience.

2015

Brett Helling creates Ridester.com, a comprehensive resource for the rideshare industry.

The site grows over the next few years, and he realizes he is onto something big.

He continues to expand his portfolio of websites, while heavily focusing on the growth of Ridester.

Over the next few years, Ridester eclipses 1,500,00 unique visitors per month.

2019

While at the bottom of an indoor pool during a scuba driving training dive, Brett looks up and sees the lights in the ceiling.

He realizes that Ridester was just one lightbulb – just one part of something much bigger than ridesharing – and there were many other industries that people might need help with.

That day, he begins researching the gig economy.

After months of work, Gigworker.com in its first form is launched.

The site initially takes a focus exclusively on information sharing, while the Gigworker team builds additional features in the background.

The Gigworker team continues to steadily produce content, build features, and expand the information on the site.

During that time, Brett Helling also begins writing a book about the gig economy.

He’s extensively researched the industry, so by this point, pulling together the data has become second nature.

2020

Gigworker.com is once again redesigned.

After realizing that information alone will not suffice the intent of readers, the team overhauls the design to help better find information, features, and guides.

The team also builds an MVP of the job board.

In doing so, they realized that there is a massive demand for a browsable gig economy directory.

2021

Brett puts the finishing touches on his book, and then launches it publicly.

Gigworker: Independent Work and the State of the Gig Economy becomes available for purchase on Amazon, rising to become a best-seller in less than one year.

The entire Gigworker brand receives a full overhaul, including logo, messaging, and mission.

The website is also rebuilt from the ground up in an effort to make navigating the various elements simpler and easier.

What you see on the site today is the accumulation of those efforts – a brand that stands the test of time.

2023

The team rolls out popular features such as the Company Directory, Side Hustle directory, Side Hustle Database, VIP Membership program, and more.

Once an adequate foundation was established, the Gigworker began acquiring other properties that were for sale.

These included Edutestlabs.com and Cameraken.com – two different strategic acquisitions that allowed the team to rapidly build content silos on the site.

Our team is actively working to build a site that our users love.

As you can see, we’ve gone to great lengths to do so this far, but we’re always open to feedback and how we can improve.

If you have an idea, suggestion, or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

We provide all the different ways our team can be contacted on our Contact Page.
