    Your favorite restaurants, delivered

There’s nothing that soothes a bad day quite like delivery food.

People love ordering in, whether it’s with friends, their significant other, or by themselves.

You can deliver happiness as a DoorDash driver.

Becoming an on-demand delivery driver for DoorDash has tons of perks.

Earn what you want, when you want.

You can earn quick money on your own time.

As a DoorDash driver, also known as a Dasher, you have the flexibility to determine your schedule.

Unlike Uber and Lyft drivers, instead of transporting people, you’re delivering food orders.

Plus, as a Dasher, you can earn all kinds of discounts before you’ve even started driving.

Keep reading to learn more about the DoorDash driver promo code and how to use it.

    Why Drive For DoorDash?

From making a little extra money to just enjoying working for a flourishing startup, there are quite a few reasons why people drive for DoorDash.

They’re giving away big signup bonuses for new drivers, but the fun doesn’t stop there.

Here are the most popular ones:

Opportunities – National chains and small, local restaurants are all allowed to make their products available via DoorDash, creating a perfect opportunity for individuals with some spare time and a good vehicle to earn supplemental income.

DoorDash Runs All Year Round – You may choose to earn extra cash during the busy holiday season when people typically prefer the convenience of ordering in rather than venturing out in the cold.

Pick your preferred day, put in the number of hours you want to work, and earn up to $25 an hour driving for DoorDash.

No Car? No Problem – DoorDash doesn’t require you to own a car to make deliveries.

You are free to use bikes, scooters, motorcycles, or even walk.

As long as you can commute independently and meet DoorDash driver qualifications, you can be a Dasher.

Commercial Auto Liability – As a legitimate and responsible service provider, DoorDash offers a generous commercial auto insurance policy with a $1 million limit for third-party property damage or bodily injuries (pedestrians, etc.) and any other losses arising out of an auto accident while making a DoorDash delivery.

Driver Protection – Dashers are protected from rude or threatening customers by DoorDash’s employment policy.

Any unruly behavior, bodily injury, or threat that’s promptly reported back to DoorDash is swiftly and responsibly dealt with in accordance with local laws.

    How Much Does DoorDash Pay?

The obvious advantage to dashing is that you get to work how much and how often you work.

But the question on everyone’s mind is: how much money can you make?

The DoorDash website claims drivers can make up to $25 an hour, which might be a stretch for most markets.

However, you are guaranteed a minimum of $10 an hour.

In the rare case you make less than $10 an hour, DoorDash pays the difference.

The average pay per order is $5, plus anything you make from tips.

Dashers are paid $1 per delivery, plus a “pay boost,” which depends on the area where you’re dashing, as well as how far you need to go to deliver the order.

This can range anywhere from a few bucks to as much as $25.

For example, if you live in Manhattan, you’ll make a guaranteed $15 per delivery, and $25 if you need to travel to another borough.

But in Chicago, you’re only guaranteed $8 per delivery.

The other way you get paid is through tips, which are 100 percent yours.

People can tip you on their credit card in the app, or they can give you cash when you deliver the food.

Altogether, you can expect to make between $15-25 working as a Dasher.

You will always know the guaranteed amount you are set to earn with an order before accepting or rejecting a request.

This amount is derived from a variety of factors such as the order size, if you have to place the order in person, traffic conditions, driving distance, parking, and projected wait time.

Payment is transferred via direct deposit.

You should see your earnings credited to your account by Wednesday night each week, but dashers also have the option to withdraw their daily earnings the next day using Fast Pay.

That being said, there are three expenses you need to keep in mind:

    1. Gas Expenses – The delivery fee is a flat amount for a radius, so you may end up spending on gas if your delivery locations are quite far or you’re serving a sparsely populated area.
    2. Maintenance – Whether you drive a car or ride a bike, you might have to spend some money to fix the wear and tear incurred on your vehicle.
    3. Taxes  Dashers are independent contractors. This means DoorDash does not deduct taxes from your income, and you’re responsible to pay your own taxes in a timely manner. If you make more than $600 from DoorDash in a year, you’ll receive a 1099-MISC form that shows your total earnings working for the service.

As incentives, DoorDash drivers are provided two free meals and drinks during the flexible working hours, and a periodic bonus in the form of DoorDash gift cards which can be directly credited to your account online or even transferred to your customer account and can be redeemed as free delivery credit for your next DoorDash order.

During peak times, when there is an increase in demand, DoorDash pays Dashers extra.

This is called “Busy Pay,” and it encourages Dashers to get on the road to make deliveries during times of high demand.

Pro Tip: Get your feet wet by working in the downtown area for the first few weeks and stack up a good count of orders.

It’s best to save your free rides, sign-up rewards, and promotional codes for irregular or long-distance orders to maximize your rewards and income until you get more familiar with the way it all works.

    DoorDash Referral Bonuses

DoorDash has previously offered this referral bonus as a way to encourage more people to join the service as delivery drivers.

This helped them expand their operations into new cities while also giving new Dashers extra incentive to make more deliveries.

Signing up during this referral bonus incentive period is a no-brainer.

DoorDash essentially payed you extra money to gain experience as a Dasher.

See, they required you to make a certain number of deliveries to get the bonus.

It’s gamification of on the job training.

With this training, you gained valuable experience that will help you figure out how to optimize your delivery times and customer service to increase your tips.

In the end, you got the prize – the bonus!

In some cases, bonuses went as high as $750!

We have found, though, that $300 has seemed to be the typical amount received by Dashers in the past.

To leverage the referral bonus, you’d need to meet the minimum requirements specified by DoorDash.

That usually involved making a minimum number of deliveries within the first 30 days of signing up to be a DoorDash driver.

The will vary requirements depending on your city.

    Boosting Your Earnings With Referrals

Do you already deliver for DoorDash?

Good news – this is a double-sided bonus! Current Dashers can share their referral links with friends and get in on the bonus, too.

If your friend meets the minimum number of deliveries in the first 30 days, you both get paid!

Encouraging friends and family to use your referral link is a great way to not only help them out but to make a little extra cash yourself.

Who can drive for DoorDash and who is eligible for promo codes?

You must live in one of the cities in the United States and Canada where DoorDash currently operates to become a Dasher and to use the driver promo code.

If your city isn’t listed yet, check back soon.

    DoorDash is ever-expanding.

Being a DoorDash Dasher is an excellent side-gigNew and veteran drivers both benefit from the referral program and can reap substantial monetary rewards.

Be sure to take advantage of it.

DoorDash is a growing company that was founded in part to give people an opportunity for employment that offered flexibility.

They also wanted to deliver goods to make both consumers and businesses happy.

It’s a great initiative to be a part of on our opinion.

Enter into this as a side-gig, at least in the beginning.

It will take you a bit of time to establish a reputation and to solidify positive relationships with businesses and repeat customers.

Maybe at some point, you will have built yourself up enough as a Dasher to quit your day job, but don’t do it yet.

Start with this bonus and meet the minimum number of deliveries and then start thinking about your next move.

    Do DoorDash Drivers Earn Tips?

Tipping DoorDash drivers is optional, and customers are given a default option to tip while completing their transaction through the app.

While many are happy to tip for a good experience, it isn’t the primary source of income for the drivers.

DoorDash charges a flat fee for every order, regardless of the merchant’s relative standing.

So a high-end fine-dining place and a food truck could both end up with the same service fee.

While the deliverables themselves are kept at the same price point as their in-store counterparts, the flat fee helps pay for the food delivery fleet.

At times extra charges or delivery fees might be incurred if ordered online — in accordance with the websites or third-party payment gateways.

Where Can I Drive for DoorDash?

DoorDash is up and running in more than 300 U.S. and Canadian cities.

In some cities, like Fort Worth and San Jose, it’s the most popular food delivery service available.

If you want to be a Dasher, you have to live in one of those cities or be able to get there in order to work.

DoorDash provides a list of cities where DoorDash is available – check it to see if DoorDash is available near where you live.

Some of the more popular cities for Dashers include New York, Boston, Nashville, Los Angeles, Denver, Washington D.C., Phoenix, Dallas, Seattle, Toronto, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, San Antonio, and Houston. But the service is available in many more places.

    Dashers can switch cities too.

So, if you go on vacation or you’re a digital nomad, you can earn extra money when you’re on the move.

People always overspend on vacation but DoorDash delivery drivers have a way to make up the difference!

You can only work in one city at a time, but since you can’t be in two places at once, that makes sense.

To switch your Dash city, all you have to do is notify DoorDash customer service that you’re working in a different city.

    DoorDash is expanding rapidly.

In a recent blog post, they predicted that they would triple the number of DoorDash cities by the end of this year.

It’s not wishful thinking – they’ve got $535 million to back up the claim.

So, if DoorDash doesn’t operate in your city right now, there is a huge chance that they will in the future!

How Do I Become a DoorDash Driver?

The DoorDash business model depends on Dashers, which is the term used for the people who actually make the deliveries.

While technically DoorDash employees, Dashers are freelancers who can work as much or as little as they want.

    Interested in becoming a Dasher?

If you’re eligible to apply, the process is easy.

Before you start your application, confirm that you are eligible to apply and that DoorDash is operating in your city.

    DoorDash Driver Requirements

Becoming a courier is relatively easy, as long as you meet the DoorDash driver eligibility requirements the company maintains for all its drivers.

To driver for DoorDash, you must:

    • Be 18 or older.
    • Live in a city where DoorDash is available.
    • Be able to carry bags of food.
    • Have access to a vehicle: car, bicycle, or some other form of transportation.
    • Have proof of insurance with your name on it if you are driving a motor vehicle.
    • Pass a clean background check.
    • Have a least two years licensed driving experience.
    • Have access to an iPhone or Android smartphone device.

The DoorDash background check is pretty straightforward and typical of other background checks.

Background problems that will get you disqualified from DoorDash:

    • Felonies
    • Violent crimes
    • Sexual Offenses
    • Theft
    • Property damage charges

    DoorDash Vehicle Requirements

DoorDash doesn’t even require that you have a particular kind of vehicle.

It’s dependent on your local laws.

You could drive a car, or a scooter, or a bicycle.

In some cities, if you’re fast on your feet, you can even walk.

DoorDash is a great option for people who don’t have a nice car because they don’t have any cosmetic requirements.

As long as your car operates and you have all the necessary documents (valid driver’s license, insurance, etc.), you’re good to go.

So, if you wanted to drive for Uber or Lyft but can’t meet their vehicle standards, DoorDash could be a great option for you.

There’s one vehicle requirement for bicycles.

You have to have a basket to transport the food.

DoorDash could be a great option for people who lack access to a car.

However, even those who live in densely-packed cities might find themselves walking too far and cutting into their final paycheck.

    Apply To Drive For DoorDash

The first step is to head to the DoorDash website and scroll all the way down to the footer and click on “Become a Dasher.”

    how become doordash driver

Next, you will have to submit some very basic information and consent to receiving messages from DoorDash:

    how become doordash driver

After this, you will be asked to sign in to your DoorDash account (if you have one), or create one (if you don’t).

Next you will be asked to confirm a few more details:

    how become doordash driver

After you hit “Continue,” the next step is to consent to the background check.

First, you will have to select your “Vehicle Type.”

The two options are a bicycle and a car.

On this page you will be asked to provide:

    • Driver’s License State
    • Driver License Number
    • Confirm auto insurance
    • Birthdate
    • Social Security Number

    how become doordash driver

The reason you have to provide all of this information is so DoorDash can run a driver history report and background check.

The check is run by a third party company called Checkr (the same company used by Uber and Lyft).

When you consent to the background check, you agree to the Disclosure and Authorization terms:

You will have to wait a little bit for your background check to come back.

    It isn’t instant.

The timeline ranges – some Redditors report that it takes less than a day while others say it takes up to two weeks.

The other piece of information you’ll need to provide is your bank’s routing number and your account number.

All payments to drivers are made via direct deposit right into your account.

    DoorDash Orientation

Depending on where you’re located, you may be required to complete either an online or in-person orientation.

At this stage, you will learn how to use the Dasher app, fill out a W-9 form to get paid, learn the general guidelines for completing a successful delivery, and get a handbook or a printed manual for other rules specific to DoorDash.

Since early 2015, a short presentation on the company outlining a brief history, an overview of the business model, company policy (do’s and don’ts), and onboarding process have been part of the orientation.

This is an example of one of the beginning Orientation slides.

The last part involves signing a contractor agreement.

DoorDash drivers are not full-time employees of the company, which means that DoorDash does not withhold taxes from your income.

DoorDash will send you a 1099 form at tax time so that you can report your earnings to the IRS.

You will be required to bring your fully charged smartphone, your driver’s license, and a credit or debit card to the orientation.

You’ll grab your Red Card, a DoorDash hot bag, a DoorDash tee shirt, and other gear on your way out.

What Supplies Do I Need to Be a Successful Dasher?

There are a few items you may need to make your shifts easier to manage.

Unfortunately, DoorDash does not provide branded gear to Dashers for free; you must purchase these items on your own.

However, once you start completing deliveries, you should make this money back in no time.

Here are a few items you might want to consider purchasing if you don’t have them already:

    • A reliable form of transportation
    • A reliable smartphone (iPhone or Android are compatible) and charger
    • Snack to eat while on the job
    • Insulated delivery bag for items
    • DoorDash hat or t-shirt so customers know who you are

You can purchase DoorDash gear on their website.

    What About Insurance?

You need to supply your own vehicle, but DoorDash provides commercial insurance that covers up to $1,000,000 in bodily injury and/or property damage to third parties that comes about because of an accident that occurred while making a DoorDash delivery.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that DoorDash will not cover vehicle maintenance.

The more you Dash, the more wear and tear you’ll put on your car.

Remember this when you become a Dasher, as this could wind up being an unexpected expense of the job.

DoorDash makes it easier for restaurants to sell to more customers, and exposes customers to new restaurants.

Plus, it’s a chance for people with a car or motorcycle to make some extra cash.

If DoorDash is available in your area, consider giving it a try today.

    How to Dash

Once you have been approved, you’re essentially ready to dash.

But you’ll need a few things first, such as:

    • DoorDash gear, which will be shipped to you
    • A Red Card. This is works like a credit card. It’s how you will pay for orders you pick up at different restaurant. This will be mailed to you after you’ve been approved as a driver.
    • A hot bag. This you must purchase on your own, either from DoorDash or any other store. It’s very important you have a hot bag, as some vendors will refuse to let you deliver DoorDash orders without one
    • A way to get around. This can be a car, a scooter, a bike, or even your own two feet. DoorDash will tell you which delivery modes are acceptable in your area when you sign up through the DoorDash app, which is available for both Android and iOS.

Once you have these things, Dashing is simple.

Start by logging into the app and scheduling a time to Dash.

There will be options you can choose from based on the amount of demand in the area.

And when it’s time for you to Dash, go to busy areas and check the app frequently.

After an order is placed, you’ll get a notification telling you where to get the food and where to bring it.

And then once the delivery is made, mark it as complete in the app, and then wait for the next order to come in.
