Traveling Vineyard: Make Money Selling Wine on the Side

It’s not very often you come across opportunities where you can turn a hobby into a side hustle.

If you’re a self-proclaimed wino, we’re happy to say that you can take your wine hobby and turn it into a side business.

The Traveling Vineyard — a direct-sales wine company — lets you enjoy your passion while making a little money in your free time.

Direct selling isn’t for everyone, but if you’re interested in hosting tasting parties and getting paid to enjoy something you love, then keep reading on.

What Is Traveling Vineyard?

Traveling Vineyard is a home-based direct-sales wine company that gives you the opportunity to sell wine for a profit from the comfort of your own home.

As a wine consultant, you can order a wine selling kit, set up wine parties, and sell wine to your local network.

Similar to other direct-sales companies, you’ll be rewarded for setting up parties and selling products to consumers.

For each sale you make, you’ll earn a commission.

You’ll also be able to earn money from adding members to your team.

Does this sound familiar at all?

Traveling Vineyard isn’t exactly like the rest of direct-sales companies out there though.

Let’s look at some of the benefits you’ll have as a wine guide.

Benefits of Traveling Vineyard

For starters, you get to work with wine.

What’s not to love about that?

As a Traveling Vineyard wine guide, you’ll be able to try all sorts of new wines and become a true wine expert.

Anyone can become a wine guide and no previous training is needed.

You’ll receive all the training you’ll need once you sign up and onboard with Traveling Vineyard.

There is also very little upfront costs associated with joining and you won’t be required to have a house full of stock to sell.

No monthly minimum sales quotas are required to be met.

You can sell as much or as little wine as you want on your own schedule while setting your own hours.

Lastly, hosting wine parties is a fun way to network with new people and hang out with fellow wine lovers who share your passion.

If nothing else, consider this your ticket to another fun social activity to mingle with others and sit around and drink wine.

If you’re interested, let’s see how Traveling Vineyard works and how you can get started selling today.

How Does Traveling Vineyard Work?

Getting set up as a wine guide only takes a few days and requires little training.

Once you’re comfortable, you can start hosting your own parties and make money off wine sales.

Traveling Vineyard success kit
The first step is signing up to become a wine guide.

You can do so by filling out the form at the bottom of this page.

Within 48 hours, a wine guide will contact you.

This will be your chance to ask any questions you have regarding the program.

Once you feel comfortable, you can purchase your first Success Kit for $179.99 which includes everything you need to host two wine parties.

A wine Success Kit includes the following items:

  • Two tasting sets of five bottles of wine (enough for two tasting parties)
  • Tasting glasses with carrying case
  • Six-bottle wine carrier
  • Order forms and start-up guide
  • Marketing materials, like brochures and flyers
  • Wine accessories
  • Sommology Kit

A Sommology Kit is a neat addition to your Success Kit.

It includes snacks and instructions to properly conduct wine tastings and food pairings.

It will be your cheat sheet to being a master sommelier in no time.

In addition to these kits, Traveling Vineyard will set up your very own wine-selling website.

This will be your online presence if any of your customers want to buy more wine at a later date.

Training

Before you host your party, you’ll be encouraged to conduct as much training as you see fit.

You can do this through Traveling Vineyard’s online training platform, with your  Sommology Kit, and their blog.

Training will teach you all about the different varietals you’ll be selling, how to build a profitable team, and how you can grow your business.

You’ll also be assigned to a leader in your local area.

You can communicate with your leader and ask any questions about hosting your first party.

You can even meet up with them and shadow an event they host.

Hold Your First Wine Tasting Event

Once you feel prepared, you can schedule your first home wine tasting party.

It’s not a bad idea to set up your first party with family and friends as it will allow you to work out the kinks in a comfortable environment.

When your guests arrive, you can walk them through the different wines in your kit and instruct the wine tasting session.

You can also use the Sommology Kit to teach your guests about the different wines they’re trying and the science behind food and wine pairing.

After the session, you can take any orders from your guests and record all of their payment information.

For each order you sell, you’ll receive a commission.

You’ll let them know when their wine will be shipped.

That’s it!

Order More Wine, Rinse, and Repeat

If your first party went well, you can set up another party and do it all over again.

Your initial wine kit will have enough wine for you to host two parties.

You can reach out to Traveling Vineyard once you run out of wine or need to replenish anything else in your kit.

After that, you can start to build your team to open additional revenue streams to your new side business.

How Much Does Traveling Vineyard Pay?

Working for Traveling Vineyard won’t make you rich, but it is a fun side gig that can help you bring in extra money.

You’ll be paid between 15-35% commission for the personal sales you generate.

This commission level is based on a sliding scale.

The more you sell, the higher your commission percentage will be.

The commission structure can be found in the table below and is based on annual personal sales volumes.
Commission rates for Traveling Vineyard wine guides
As we mentioned, selling wine won’t make you rich.

To give you an idea, in 2017, 97% of wine guides made under $3,300 over the course of the year.

There are obviously outliers, but you can check out the earnings yourself here.

You can also receive commissions if you’re able to build a team of wine guides.

Additionally, there are bonuses and rewards you can obtain if you hit certain sales goals.

Let’s look at how much it will cost you to get started.

How Much Does Traveling Vineyard Cost?

You’ll need to spend $179.99 to receive your first Success Kit which includes enough wine for two wine parties.

After that, you’ll need to spend $75 to replenish each set of wine for future events.

If you were quite successful and closed many sales at your previous wine parties, you won’t need to pay for your replenished kit.

Your sales will cover the cost and you’ll pocket the remaining money.

You should also consider that you’re receiving exclusive award-winning Traveling Vineyard wine at a slightly discounted price.

What you’re getting will be cheaper than a majority of what you’ll find in stores.

Get a Taste of the Wine Business

So what’s our take on starting your own Traveling Vineyard wine business?

Well, we wouldn’t consider this a full-time opportunity, but it is a great part-time hobby that can make you money at the same time.

You’re definitely not going to get rich overnight.

Most people make under a few thousand dollars every year, however, it would be a fun way to try new wines, host parties, and hang out with friends over a glass of cabernet, syrah, or pinot grigio.

As long as you manage your expectations, you can get a taste of the business and try your hand at hosting wine parties.
