Opinion Outpost Review: Is It Right for You?

If you’re looking for ways to make money online, survey sites may be an attractive option.

You don’t need any work experience or unique skills to take online surveys, and there is no limit on how many you can complete in a day, which is why they are such an attractive way to earn extra cash.

Unfortunately, too many online surveys are scams.

The pay is too low, and survey companies may turn around and sell your personal information to third-party companies.

So, if you’re looking to earn extra money, you need to make sure that the company you do so with is trustworthy and not a waste of time.

One example of a company that allows you to take surveys is Opinion Outpost.

Below, you’ll find everything that you need to know about the site so that you can determine whether it’s a legit way for you to earn cash in your spare time.

What Is Opinion Outpost and How Does It Work?

Opinion Outpost: Hands type on a laptop

Opinionoutpost.com serves as a free online platform that connects businesses to consumers.

The company’s website states that “a successful company’s most important consultant is you, the consumer!”

Opinion Outpost says that companies use the information provided by the customer to “produce new and improved products and services.”

As a member, you’ll have access to a lot of surveys.

Topics can include:

  • Advertisements
  • Appliances
  • Electronics
  • Medicine
  • Politics
  • Sports
  • More mundane things, like what you ate for breakfast

According to the FAQs section of the company website, “Opinion Outpost conducts surveys because businesses, governments, public bodies, and similar organizations are interested in the views and attitudes of the people who use their products and services.

The more they know about what customers and citizens think, the easier it is for them to improve and adapt what they supply.”

How Do Payments Work?

There are numerous different payment options available.

Every time you take a survey, you earn Opinion Points.

You can cash out these points in a variety of ways, including:

  • Amazon Gift Card Claim Codes
  • iTunes Gift Cards
  • A cash transfer to your PayPal account

Each Opinion Point is worth 10 cents, and you’ll need to have at least 30 points in your account to receive a payout.

Opinion Outpost also allows you to exchange your points for entries in a quarterly prize draw sweepstakes worth $10,000.

You also have the option of donating the cash value of your points to the American Red Cross.

Furthermore, once you become a member, you’ll receive a referral link.

The company will pay you five points for every person that signs up using your link.

Posting this referral link to your social media pages, such as Facebook and Twitter, could help increase your earnings from the site.

You should also note that if you earn more than $599 in a year, you’ll need to submit an IRS Form W-9 to Survey Sampling International (SSI) the parent company of Opinion Outpost.

This is the maximum amount that SSI is permitted to pay without reporting the income to the IRS.

SSI considers you an independent contractor, which means you are responsible for paying the entirety of the tax burden.

This means that your earnings are subject to a federal tax rate of 15.3%.

However, you can deduct business expenses, such as the cost of the internet if you’re working from home, to reduce your tax burden.

Just how much can you make working for the company?

The company says that the average survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

Although the payment for each study can vary, if a 15-minute survey is worth 30 points, you would make roughly $12 an hour.

Getting Started With Opinion Outpost

Opinion Outpost: the company's homepage

The first thing you need to do to get started with Opinion Outpost is to become a member.

You can do so on the sign-up page, where you’ll enter basic information like your name and email address.

Then, they will send an application form to your email, which you can complete digitally.

Opinion Outpost requires you to have an email address to become a member.

The company will occasionally send survey invitations to this address.

You could also use your Facebook or LinkedIn profiles to connect as your login as well.

There are no costs associated with a membership.

The company will not ask for credit card information for an application fee.

You can join and leave the survey panel at any time, free of charge.

Once you are done signing up, the company will begin sending you emails with surveys that you could qualify for.

Unfortunately, one of the downsides about Opinion Outpost work is that, while there are ample survey invitations available, you may not be eligible for all of them.

Completing your profile is one of the best ways to ensure you qualify for surveys.

Doing so ensures that things such as your age, gender, and location in the United States are accurate — you cannot work for the company if you are not based in the United States.

However, even after completing your profile, there is still no guarantee that you’ll qualify for surveys.

The beginning of each survey will ask you a series of questions to make sure that you qualify.

You could end up answering a few questions correctly, only to discover that you are not eligible.

There’s no way of knowing what criteria the business is looking for, so there’s no way to bypass or spoof this process.

So, you could end up wasting your time trying to qualify for surveys, only to realize late in the process that you’re not eligible.

You won’t receive any financial compensation for the pre-survey qualification process.

Lastly, you can only take Opinion Outpost surveys over the internet.

Members cannot take surveys over the phone or via mail.

Tips for Taking Surveys on Opinion Outpost

Opinion Outpost stresses the fact that it provides legit, high-quality surveys.

This not only applies to businesses but members as well.

The company wants to make sure that its members are providing thoughtful, reliable information.

If the company determines that you’re not doing so, they could ban your account.

Thus, you’ll want to make sure that you take the time when completing surveys.

As tempting as it may be, you’ll want to make sure that you’re not rushing through studies.

Completing surveys with accurate information will help lead to you receiving more survey invitations in the future.

Similarly, you should make sure your responses are legible and easy to understand.

Don’t use abbreviations when answering non-multiple choice questions.

Lastly, although you may receive invitations to multiple surveys, you should only complete one at a time.

They frown on their members taking more than one survey at a time.

Be sure to complete questionnaires before continuing to a different one.

Is Opinion Outpost Worth It?

Is it worth it for you to join this survey site?

The answer depends on what you’re looking for.

If you feel that taking surveys is an excellent way to earn money online because of their accessibility and convenience, then joining Opinion is worth it.

Opinion Outpost is one of the best survey sites out there.

The pay rates are better than what you would find on other survey websites, and there is an abundance of options available for you to choose from.

The surveys don’t take more than a few minutes to complete.

However, if you are looking for a work-from-home job that pays well, you should skip it.

The amount of time that you need to put into Opinion Outpost for it to pay sustainable living wages is simply not achievable.

Although it pays better than other survey sites, you won’t earn anything more than part-time income or a bit of extra cash as a member of the website.

The site isn’t a viable option if you’re looking to earn a full-time income.

  1. I love opinion outpost but right now I’m filling out the W-9 form and I didn’t see this coming lol i earned over $600 within a year which is pretty cool, it’s exciting and fun especially the video surveys. I work as a caregiver so I do it on my free time or when my client is just sleeping, good way to make some extra cash! Good luck and be consistent with your answers so you don’t get disqualified 🙂
