Calling all hairstylists, makeup artists, and manicurists — we have the perfect opportunity for you to make money on the side while doing something you’re truly passionate about.

We’d like to introduce you to Glamsquad â€” an on-demand beauty service provider that will help you make some extra cash in your spare time.

There’s Uber for ridesharing, Instacart for grocery delivery, and now Glamsquad for beauty services.

Some people are cut out for the gig working lifestyle and signing up for jobs of all sorts.

However, if you’re a trained beauty stylist, then maybe you’d want to apply your expertise in an area you already know you’ll love.

In this guide, we’ll go over everything you need to know about Glamsquad.

We’ll show you what it is, how it works, and what you need to do to become a Glamsquad Pro.

We’ll also discuss some pros and cons so you’ll know if this opportunity is the right one for you.

What Is Glamsquad?

Glamsquad web page
Glamsquad is an on-demand beauty service provider.

Customers can reserve experienced beauty professionals to come to their homes to do their hair, makeup, nails, and event preparation.

In a world of on-demand services at your fingertips, Glamsquad helps people look their best when they need it most.

Glamsquad gig workers — or Glamsquad Pros — come directly to the customer’s location and handle all beauty services.

Customers can reserve professionals for any reason, but many turn to Glamsquad to prepare for weddings, events, or a big night out on the town.

So how does it work and what’s it like working as a Glamsquad Pro?

How Does Glamsquad Work?

Glamsquad service options with detail expanded for a blowout
Glamsquad customers will log in to their app and schedule an appointment by providing the service, date, time, and location.

The customer is then paired up with a stylist who will go to their location and provide professional beauty services.

You can expect to have appointments between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

You should also be prepared to provide services in customers’ homes, offices, hotel rooms, or wherever else they might need you.

You first have to sign up to become a Glamsquad professional, which we’ll cover in detail below.

After you sign up, you can use the app to set your availability.

You’ll then be assigned customer appointments based on your availability.

When the time comes, you’ll drive to the customer’s location and provide your services.

Glamsquad offers a wide range of services including blowouts, manicures, pedicures, makeup, and more.

There are even appointments where you provide lessons to the client, like how to style your hair or how to do your makeup.

You will only be assigned appointments that align with your professional expertise.

Each appointment will have a set time limit, usually around 60-90 minutes.

If a customer adds additional services to their appointment, then the time may increase by 15 or 30 minutes.

After your appointment, all payment is handled directly through the app.

You will earn varying levels of commission depending on each service you provide.

Glamsquad even says you’ll receive a guaranteed tip on every appointment.

Benefits of Being a Glamsquad Pro

Glamsquad Pros are able to make money on their own time.

You also get access to excellent perks, receive great experience, and often learn beauty tips from some of the best in the industry.

Working with Glamsquad means you have flexibility with your schedule.

You can set your availability and only work when you want to.

If you have to attend class during the day, then set your availability for night.

If you’re busy running around with the kids in the evening, then schedule all of your appointments in the morning.

With Glamsquad, experience matters.

If you can show that you’re an expert in various fields, then you can be assigned a variety of appointments to earn more cash.

You’re also guaranteed to receive a tip for every appointment.

Although payment figures are hard to confirm before you start, you can expect to be paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $16 per hour.

All payment is processed directly through the Glamsquad app.

Let’s take a look at what’s required to become a Glamsquad stylist.

Requirements of Glamsquad Pros

The requirements of becoming a Glamsquad professional vary on a case-by-case basis.

According to Glamsquad, they hire stylists with years of professional experience who are given a background check and character assessment.

Once you’ve passed the above requirements, you partake in a 40-hour assessment program.

This program is monitored by experienced senior Glamsquad stylists who will decide if you’re the right fit for the job.

Glamsquad states that it’s very picky about which stylists it hires.

Only one out of eight applicants will be hired to start working on the platform.

But if you have what it takes, you’ll be getting paid as a Glamsquad stylist in no time.

As a member of the team, you have access to master classes, training sessions, and seminars.

These will help you sharpen your skills and become an even better stylist.

There are also networking opportunities so you can meet other professionals in your field who share the same goals and vision.

Do you think you’d be a good fit for Glamsquad?

If so, here’s how you can sign up and apply to become a stylist.

How to Sign Up for Glamsquad

Signing up to become a Glamsquad Pro requires filling out an application, creating a Glamsquad profile, and completing an audition and some brief training.

You can start providing services once you’ve finished all of the above and have been approved by Glamsqaud.

The first step is to head to the signup page on Glamsquad.com and fill out the application.

Your application will require the following information:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Phone number
  • City where you’ll work
  • Preferred service
  • Styling licenses
  • Link to your Instagram account or portfolio (optional)

You’ll then walk through 21 questions to create your Glamsquad profile.

You should be prepared to address all of the following areas:

  • Home address
  • Do you have access to a car?
  • How did you hear about Glamsquad?
  • Type of beauty license you have (if applicable)
  • Which state you’re licensed in
  • Years of experience
  • Which brands you use on your clients
  • Highlights of your career so far
  • General work availability
  • Can you work on weekends?
  • Previous mobile beauty company experience
  • Resume (optional)
  • Link to your work (optional)
  • Image of your best work

After your profile has been reviewed, Glamsquad will contact you to conduct a brief audition.

This can be in-person or by uploading a video submission.

This will vary from city to city.

If the team thinks you’re a good fit, you’ll receive some introductory training.

Then you’ll be ready to start taking appointments and making cash in your free time.

Now that you know what it takes to become a Glamsquad Pro, let’s see if the service is available in your location.

Where Is Glamsquad Located?

Locations the service is available
Glamsquad hasn’t expanded to many cities around the United States.

You’ll only be able to work as a Glamsquad Pro if you live in the following major metro areas.

  • New York City
  • Los Angeles
  • Orange County
  • Miami
  • DC Metro
  • Boston
  • San Francisco and Bay Area

These cities will have opportunities for you to find flexible work for stylists.

It’s worth noting that nail services are only available in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Washington D.C.

If Glamsquad isn’t available in your area, then you can check out StyleSeat another on-demand beauty service
Before taking the plunge into this side gig, you should consider what current Glamsquad stylists have to say about the platform.

What Glamsquad Pros Have to Say

As with any service work you encounter, there are going to be some polarizing opinions from those currently in the field.

There also tend to be different experiences depending on if you’re a hairstylist, makeup artist, or nail manicurist.

Some of the upsides of this job that stylists love are being able to set your own schedule and work whenever you want.

You also get to meet amazing people on a daily basis.

And all the while, you’re able to build your portfolio so you can showcase your talents for future styling opportunities.

Unfortunately, the complaints seem to outweigh the positive aspects of the platform.

There are many concerned workers who voice that they don’t get enough work and that work can be spotty.

They state that it’s an unreliable source of income and should only be considered as a side gig.

There are also complaints that stylists aren’t paid enough for the services they complete and that more experienced stylists aren’t allowed to set their own rates.

Plus, there are frustrations over not having enough time in between appointments.

You can sometimes be expected to arrive at your next appointment in 30-minutes even if you have to drive all the way across town.

As a side gig, it can be a good option to earn some extra money.

Instead of considering Glamsquad your full-time job, stylists recommend using the app as a supplement to other sources of income.
