Is ClassPass Worth It? ClassPass Rates and Costs Examined

There’s nothing worse than looking back on your monthly bank statement and seeing those monthly subscription fees add up.

This is especially true when it comes to unused fitness memberships.

It’s like adding insult to injury.

As if you already didn’t feel guilty enough about not going to the gym.

For example, even if you did end up taking advantage of your monthly Pure Barre class membership, you still see an additional charge for those SoulCycle classes you wanted to try out for the first time.

If you didn’t like the SoulCycle classes, then no harm no foul.

But let’s say that after trying out the class for the first time, you really enjoyed it and wanted to sign up for more classes.

Now that means you are locked into a monthly Pure Barre membership, plus a monthly SoulCycle class membership.

The charges quickly add up and leave little flexibility for you to arrange and pay for your workout regimens that are customized to your needs.

That’s where ClassPass comes in and helps alleviate some of your problems.

ClassPass is an all-in-one fitness membership that allows you the flexibility and ease to participate in many different kinds of fitness classes.

We’re going to give you an in-depth look at how ClassPass will make your life easier.

So if you’re wondering how much ClassPass costs, how the platform works, and how you can apply, keep reading.

What Is ClassPass?

ClassPass is a flexible fitness membership that gives you access to workout classes at partner studios, both in-person and online.

It’s an all-in-one membership that gives you the freedom of having only one monthly membership that allows you to attend different classes of your choice.

ClassPass covers a range of group fitness, wellness, and gym classes all in your local area.

By paying just one price for a ClassPass membership, you can attend many different types of boutique fitness classes without having a commitment at any one studio or gym.

You are able to reclaim control of your calendar and organize your fitness classes around your own needs.

This means you can join classes wherever and whenever you want.

You might be thinking that this seems too good to be true, so let’s take a look at exactly how it works.

How Does ClassPass Work?

With ClassPass, you pay for a monthly subscription that gives you an allotted amount of credits that you use on premium classes.

If you take many classes that require a higher amount of credits, then your monthly subscription will be more expensive.

The number of credits needed to pay for each class will vary depending on factors like which class you are taking, class times, and if you are a recurring member of that studio.

For instance, a Pilates class may require more credits than Crossfit, and both of these popular classes may cost more credits if you are booking last minute.

So how much do these credits cost?

How Much Does ClassPass Cost?

The cost of ClassPass will vary depending on which city you’re in, the availability of classes, and generally how much those classes cost.

Every city will have three different tiers of credits you can purchase, ranging from $35 and up.

Membership Credit Tiers

When starting your ClassPass membership, you’ll be given your city’s average credit per class to give you an idea of how many credits you’ll need to purchase.

You’ll then choose from three tiers, depending on how much you plan on working out.

Each tier will have a certain amount of credits that you can apply to classes.

To give you a better idea of what we are talking about, here’s a snapshot of what New York City ClassPass rates look like.

Let’s break this down.

If you were to pay for the minimum tier in New York City, it would cost $45 for 25 credits.

You could then use these credits towards two to three classes.

If you look at the bottom you can see that the average class costs about nine credits.

If you’re a health freak and see yourself using way more credits than this, then you would need to pay for a higher tier which increases the price to $75 or $160 per month.

Regardless, this is a steal in comparison to what you’d need to pay directly to one or more fitness studios.

For example, in order to take a Pure Barre class in Williamsburg, New York, you would need to pay $160 for only five classes.

For the same price you could attend nine to 13 classes using ClassPass.

Plus, you retain the flexibility of being able to use those credits on other classes in town as well.

Let’s say you wanted to take a cycling class down the road at Flywheel Sports.

A four-class monthly membership there would cost you another $116 per month.

So without ClassPass, that brings your monthly total to $276 for a combined nine classes.

With ClassPass, it only costs $160 to attend nine to 13 classes.

It’s a no-brainer.

Dynamic Pricing by City

Now, the Big Apple is a much larger and more expensive market than many others across the U.S.

What happens if we look at a smaller market, say Detroit?

You can immediately see the price increase and credit differences that two cities present.

Since Detroit is a smaller market that typically has cheaper fitness classes, the prices and the number of credits needed for each reflect that.

To give you a concrete comparison point, to take four to six classes in New York City it would cost you $75 per month.

If you were a user in Detroit, those four to six classes would only cost you $50.

Are you curious as to how much it will cost you?

Head to ClassPass to find out what your city’s monthly membership fees look like.

Now that you know how many credits you will need and how much they cost, what happens if you don’t use all of your monthly credits?

The great part about your monthly membership is that you can roll over up to 10 credits to the next month.

This isn’t the only benefit of using ClassPass.

What Are the Benefits of Using ClassPass?

The benefits of using ClassPass are plentiful.

Most importantly, ClassPass users have the freedom to create their own custom workout schedule without wasting money on several different fitness memberships.

With ClassPass you’re no longer tied to one specific fitness studio.

You’re free to hop around and try out new workout studios and styles of classes.

The best part is that you can do this experimenting without feeling guilty about wasting money on one studio’s monthly fees.

Some people even say that the variety of classes and flexibility increases the amount they work out.

By being able to jump from class to class, you not only get your money’s worth, but you’re also constantly engaged with the variety of classes at your disposal.

Without ClassPass, this variety of classes would cost you a fortune and there’s no way you would be able to pay a comparable price point.

You can look around elsewhere, but this is quite a good deal.

Also, if you are in a qualifying city, new customers are given a certain number of free credits to use for a one-month period.

You are able to give it a shot and see if you like it before fully committing.

ClassPass even provides multiple options that give you the added flexibility of joining classes, even if you’re not available to attend in person.

What Are the Different ClassPass Options?

Other than the standard ClassPass option mentioned above, there are also two additional options.

ClassPass Live and ClassPass Go are options for fitness fanatics who want to join classes and exercise remotely.

ClassPass Live

This ClassPass option is for those who want to work out from the comfort of their own home.

ClassPass Live gives you the ability to join unlimited classes in real time wherever you are.

The live class will be streamed onto your device with a leaderboard displaying class participants’ health metrics and workout progress.

You’ll surely be held accountable (no quitting early!) and may even receive callouts from the fitness instructor during your routine.

Even if you’re not able to make it to the live scheduled classes, you’re able to access on-demand video content to utilize when it’s most convenient for you.

To sign up for ClassPass Live you’ll need to order a starter kit, which includes Google Chromecast and a heart rate monitor.

This starter kit costs $79 (one-time fee) and will give you interactive access to your classes.

After that, it’s $19 per month for all live and on-demand classes.

ClassPass Go

A cheaper option is to join ClassPass Go.

This option consists of audio-based classes that stream through an app you download.

During your audio workout, you will hear fitness instructors coaching you and advising on the best workout techniques.

You can also see diagrams and instructions on your phone detailing proper workout form and techniques.

You can go through an entire workout as an audio instructor and visual guides coach you every step of the way.

The best part about ClassPass Go is that it’s free to download and use whenever you would like.

You don’t even need a full ClassPass membership to use it.

Everybody loves free, right?

How Do I Sign Up for ClassPass?

So you love the concept and now you’re ready to sign up to be a ClassPasser.

Luckily the process only takes a few short minutes for new members.

The first step is heading to ClassPass to input your name, email address, and password to create an account.

You then need to send a quick confirmation code to your phone to verify your number.

Once you verify your number you can choose the ClassPass membership that best fits your lifestyle.

If you live an active life and eat, sleep, and breathe fitness, then maybe go for a tier that has more class credits.

If you only workout casually, then perhaps the lower tier is right for you.

You can always adjust your tier later, so don’t worry too much about which one to choose.

After that, you’re all set.

Start browsing classes and organizing your own weekly workout routine!

Do We Have You Convinced Yet?

ClassPass is a great option for people who casually work out as well as those who are constantly at the gym or yoga studio.

Above all, it’s a great choice for those who are looking to try out a variety of classes but don’t want to be tied to expensive gym memberships or multiple boutique fitness studios fees.

If you can’t tell already, the flexibility and benefits of using ClassPass get us a little excited.

It’s not every day that a service comes around, shakes things up, and puts the power back into consumers’ hands.

Enjoy your workout!
