Make Money By Walking Dogs: Your Ultimate Guide to Rover

Ask any dog or cat owner if they consider their pet a part of the family and you’re sure to hear the same answer nine times out of ten.

Many people treat their dogs and cats as children and are very skeptical about leaving them with strangers.

This bond is why two of the biggest pain-points for animal owners are finding a reliable pet-sitting while out of town and finding someone to walk the dog while away at work.

Rover has alleviated much of that pain with their pet-setting and dog walking app.

How Do I Become a Rover Sitter or Dog Walker?

Does walking dogs or pet sitting animals sound like a side-gig you’d be interested in?

As we mentioned before, there are thousands of independent contractors currently working for Rover.

Many people do it full-time, while even more dog-sit or cat-sit as a part-time gig.

Either way, it is a great source of extra-income for dog people and animal lovers.

Signing up to be a new sitter is easy.

As long as you’re over the age of 18, you can sign up directly on their website.

All you have to do is head to the site or download the app.

Then, click the “Become a Sitter” option.

This button is located at the top of the site on a desktop computer and in the Menu of the app on an iOS or Android device.

Once you click the button, the app will direct you to fill out your profile and consent to a basic background check.

After you consent to the check, Rover will spend roughly 5 days investigating your background.

Occasionally, this process may take longer.

After the background check has been completed, your profile will immediately activate.

At that point, pet owners will be able to see your profile and contact you if they’re interested.

Once you’re signed up, it’s time to get to work!

Those pets are going to be so excited when you show up to let them out for their midday walk!

How Much Money Can I Make as a Rover Sitter?

There are a ton of Rover employees out there who make a decent living as full-time sitters.

One sitter, Jen Tserng, was recently profiled on CNBC.com because she made roughly $100,000 per year working exclusively through the app.

For her dog walking services, Tserng charges $25 per half-hour walk.

This is a smart move, considering the fact that many walkers price their services well above that price point.

However, by booking all of her walks back to back and in the same neighborhood, she’s able to move quickly from one job to the next, making as much as $200 per day.

It’s okay to increase your rate as you become more experienced.

But, be wary of charging too much money as a beginning employee.

High prices often push potential customers away.

After all, if they can find someone cheaper in the area, customers may gravitate toward that person over you.

Rover has an ongoing payment system which means that you’ll receive your payout two days after you complete a service.

So, if you’re constantly walking dogs for the app, you can establish a steady flow of income.

When you sign up as a contractor, you’re required to choose a payment method.

Your options are either PayPal or check.

If you choose to receive your payment in check form, it can take as long as three weeks for the check to get to your house.

All in all, Rover is a decent way to make some money, particularly if you love animals.

Customers are generally pretty appreciative of your work because they want their pets to be happy.

They often tip generously (some sitters have reported tips as high as $100) to show their gratitude.

GigWorker’s Take on Rover

Rover offers a fantastic service for both contractors and customers.

It’s essentially streamlined the process of finding a pet sitter, which both sides can appreciate.

If you’re an animal lover looking to make some cash, this could be your new favorite app since it’s a great way to earn income while spending time with animals.

If you’re a dog owner who desperately needs a sitter, Rover could make your life a whole lot easier.

Never again will pet owners have to sit on the phone calling friends and family to find someone who can watch their dog.
