Technology continues to change the way consumers think about everyday goods and services. Whether it’s how we get around town or how we order dinner on a Friday night, there seems to be a new software or service promising to make things easier.
Sometimes this technology meets a need that many customers didn’t even know they had.
We saw this with the launch of Uber in 2009 and with Lyft in 2012. The two rideshare giants radically changed the way people think about and use transportation. On-demand technology works to bring simplicity to customers lives, all from the comfort of home via the ease of an app.
This company is changing the way consumers think about on-demand delivery. With Postmates, customers can browse through tons of restaurants ranging from old standbys like Chipotle to that new hole-in-the-wall taco spot that just opened up down the street.
Customers select food items, add them to their cart, and place their order. From there, an available courier is dispatched who will then pick up and deliver the order.
Sounds pretty great, right? To sweeten the deal, Postmates is offering promo codes for new drivers who sign up to join the Postmates fleet.

What customers do Postmates deliver to?
Currently, Postmates delivers to homes in addition to locations such as hospitals and businesses. Be sure to clearly indicate to your courier where you’d like your order delivered to and any special instructions.
Does Postmates pricing change at peak times where there is high demand?
Yes, it’s called Blitz pricing. This change goes into effect when delivery demands are higher than normal like during dinner or lunch and on the weekends.
To ensure there are enough couriers on the road to meet the demand, this increased pricing is aimed to encourage Postmates couriers to work. Customers are informed of Blitz pricing when they place an order. From there, customers have the option to delay or cancel their order if they aren’t comfortable paying the premium price.
What is batched and chained deliveries?
For couriers, batched and chained deliveries help make the most out of every delivery. When it comes to batched deliveries, couriers can pick up multiple orders from the same place at once and complete the deliveries in one route. This eliminates the need to make several trips to one restaurant or store.
When you accept a delivery request, the app will automatically notify you of other orders that are available to be picked up from the same place. Once you have picked up the orders, the app will guide you to each location.
Chained deliveries are similar in that they also allow couriers to make more deliveries in the shortest time possible. These deliveries let you accept multiple orders from multiple locations. Then, you drop them off to the customers who live in close proximity to one another.
The Postmates app will automatically notify you about the deliveries on your route that need to be picked up. You can accept or deny an order, but if you choose to accept one, it will be added to your route.
These features allow drivers to not only make the most of their time, but maximize the amount of money they make. Batched and chained deliveries help couriers reach bonuses faster. If you decide to give these a try, be sure to double check that you deliver the right order to the right customer.
Can I change my order after I’ve placed it in the Postmates app?
Yes! After you’ve placed an order, you have the ability to contact your courier to make a change. Be sure to contact them as soon as you can to ensure the change can be made. If your change requires the courier to make another stop, your delivery may take longer than the original estimate and could potentially cost you more.
Who are Postmates couriers?
Postmates couriers are people who have passed a thorough vetting process and have met certain guidelines. Anyone can be a Postmates courier, as long as you meet the courier requirements.
How do I contact my Postmates courier?
After you place your order, it is assigned to a courier. You can contact your assigned courier through the Postmates app.
What if the customer isn’t available at the destination?
Though unlikely, this situation does arise every once in a while. If you are unable to contact the customer, the Postmates app allows you to indicate this within the order. The app will set a five-minute timer. If the customer doesn’t respond within that time, you will be prompted to return the items back to the pick-up location.
Do couriers get rated for making deliveries?
Yes. The Postmates rating scale is based on a 5-star system (just like Uber and Lyft ratings). It helps keep couriers motivated to provide excellent service and represent the company in the best way possible.
Postmates requires couriers to maintain a rating of 4.7 or above. Anything less than this can result in an account suspension. A few important things to note that can impact your rating are:
- How long it takes for you to deliver the items
- If you got any customer complaints (such as missing or wrong items)
- If they think the customer service they received was worth a high rating
It’s been rumored that not many couriers are happy with the rating scale and some have argued that a 4.7 rating is too high to maintain. Our recommendation is that you do your best with each delivery and situation you encounter. Keep a positive attitude and be professional at all times.
